Dunedin is packed with history

The City of Dunedin may have a small town feel but it carries big history, like its military manufacturing days in the 1940s.

Some history you may not know:

– The Landing Vehicle Tracked, assembled in Dunedin, helped carry troops through otherwise dangerous waters during World War II.

– The city was originally named Jonesboro until two Scottish immigrants renamed it Dunedin in 1882 (reflecting the Scottish Gaelic form of Edinburgh, Scotland).

– Game of Thrones director David Nutter graduated from Dunedin High School in 1978.

– Caladesi Island and Honeymoon Island were once one island, until a massive hurricane in 1921 separated them.
