Tarpon Springs: Much more than sponge docks

by sally@the100companies.com

Tarpon Springs is internationally known for its sponge docks, developed by experienced Greek divers in the late 1800s.

The Greek restaurants and sponge shops along Dodecanese Boulevard are a must-see. Make a day of it and see the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art or stop at Saint Somewhere Brewing Company for a cold one, too.

Lesser-known fact: The city was settled by a South Carolina family. A. W. Ormond and his daughter Mary built a cabin near Spring Bayou in 1876. The fish that jumped in the bayou caught her eye and she proposed the name Tarpon Springs.
