Explore ‘Florida Soul’ with a local historian

by
new book

Many know that soul music originated from Memphis’ Stax Records and Detroit’s Motown, but did you know it has Florida roots, too? In fact, the famed dance “The Twist” got its start in Tampa.

University of Tampa professor and author John Capouya will explore the Twist and other stories about Florida’s soul history using his new book “Florida Soul,” concert posters, ’60s photos and modern-day portraits of “soul survivors” during Happy Hour with the Historian at the St. Petersburg Museum of History on March 1.

The 6:30 p.m. event is free, with a $5 museum donation encouraged.
