The Tampa Theatre, the beloved downtown community landmark, is wrapping up its 90th anniversary.
Designed by architect John Eberson with Mediterranean and European touches, it provided an unprecedented taste of opulence when it opened in 1926.
Things you might not know:
– Admission was initially 25 cents.
– The Mighty Wurlitzer originally accompanied silent films, but was given away when it became obsolete. The organ was rescued in the 1980s and is still played regularly.
– It was one of the first buildings in Tampa with air conditioning.
