The Lightning welcomed back an old friend Friday night when Tyler Johnson returned to Amalie Arena for the first time since he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in a salary cap move.
Fans gave him a standing ovation and Bolts’ Coach Jon Cooper was emotional on the bench during an emotional video tribute to Johnson.
Johnson had eight productive seasons with the Lightning and was part of two Stanley Cup championship teams and one Cup finalist.
“It’s pretty cool,” Johnson said after the Lightning’s 5-2 victory. “Obviously, Tampa is always going to have a special place in my heart.”
