Former Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez has been unanimously selected by Florida International University’s Board of Trustees as the institution’s seventh President.
Her appointment, pending Board of Governors confirmation, would mark the first time an FIU alumna and woman has led the university.
Nuñez, who holds two degrees from FIU, has served as interim President since February. She was among three finalists for the permanent post, but she became the only one left after the others seeking the job declined to advance unless named the sole candidate.
Her goals include elevating FIU into the top 30 list of public universities by 2030.
