The Phoenix Racing team at Florida Polytechnic University recently geared up for its first national collegiate solar race, the 2024 Formula Sun Grand Prix.
Fueled by a donation from Tampa Electric (TECO), the team has spent two years developing their solar-powered car. The funds will cover travel and race expenses.
The team, comprising more than a dozen students, competed July 16-18 at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park against top universities, including MIT and UC Berkeley.
This support underscores TECO’s commitment to solar energy innovation and fostering student-led engineering initiatives. Learn more about Phoenix Racing on Florida Poly’s website here.
