Abby Payne was in Florida Polytechnic University’s inaugural class when she pursued a mechanical engineering degree.
Now she’s back, not as an engineer, but as a campus police officer.
“It’s a wild ride being back, especially in a different capacity,” said Payne, who said that she originally wanted a future in engineering but found her passion in law enforcement.
“I learned I had a knack for it, and I just loved it,” she said.
Payne previously worked with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in its animal control division and later became a deputy in patrol and the traffic homicide unit.
