IDEA Public Schools, a public charter school network that emphasizes college readiness, has tapped James Hartman as the executive director for the Tampa Bay market.

Hartman has nearly 30 years of public education experience, which he’ll bring to two campuses in Ybor City and North Tampa.

Hartman began his career as a middle school social studies teacher and rose through leadership positions, including assistant principal and principal. He previously served as superintendent at four different school districts in Texas, where he had success with college readiness programming.

He joined IDEA in 2022 as vice president of schools in Tampa Bay.
