Brandon nonprofit wins $25K for social enterprise

by
ECHO of Brandon Bracelets

ECHO of Brandon, a nonprofit working to end hunger in southeastern Hillsborough County, won the $25,000 grand prize in a Fast Pitch Competition hosted by Social Venture Partners Tampa Bay for its social enterprise – ECHO Handmade.

ECHO’s clients turn used clothing donations into accessories like purses, key chains and jewelry. The accessories are sold online and through local retailers.

The revenue generated provides clients with jobs, and supports ECHO’s mission as proceeds go back into the organization’s programs. Social enterprises, which combine a nonprofit’s mission with a business approach, are on the rise as nonprofits strive for financial sustainability.
