Hurricane season just started, but TECO is always preparing

by katem

While hurricane season only just began, TECO undergoes year-round preparations to prepare for widespread power outages associated with storms.

With an above-average season predicted, TECO has taken steps to reduce impacts of power outages, including reducing restoration time. Since 2021, its efforts have reduced power outages by 23% and shortened outage duration by 32%.

The company invests hundreds of millions of dollars each year in strengthening its system, including undergrounding power lines and strengthening power poles, as well as tree-trimming. More than half the company’s power lines are now underground, leading to a reduction in tree-related outages of 60% since 2019.
