Program bringing STEM to preschoolers looks to expand

by The 100 Companies

A free program bringing STEM to preschoolers is looking to expand. Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County CEO Fred Hicks wants to double the 100 classrooms using the ELC’s iSpy Tampa Bay program.

Each child gets a backpack of STEM tools like magnifying glasses and binoculars, plus Glazer Children’s Museum, Florida Aquarium and ZooTampa family memberships. Teachers get special training to connect STEM with skills like math and reading.

The nonprofit ELC created iSpy Tampa Bay because state tests show only half of Tampa Bay’s kids are ready for kindergarten; thousands are starting school without key skills needed for success.
