A Tampa man has been arrested and charged with 14 counts of aiding in preparation and filing of false tax returns.

A federal indictment alleges that between two years, February 2015 and February 2017, Thomas Johnson was running a business that included helping clients prepare tax returns.

During that time, Johnson prepared tax returns which contained false and fraudulent information about taxpayer credits and deductions. The total of resulting unwarranted refunds is worth more than $155,000.

Johnson was arrested in San Pedro, Belize, on Jan. 19 and faces a maximum penalty of three years in federal prison for each count.
