Chief Petty Officer Delila Edwards, a St. Petersburg native, serves the U.S. Navy aboard one of the country’s most versatile combat ships, designed to defeat threats like mines and quiet diesel submarines.
Edwards joined the Navy 15 years ago after graduating from St. Pete High. Now based in Mayport, she serves as an information systems technician aboard USS Indianapolis.
“I joined the Navy to travel the world and experience something I never had before,” Edwards said.
To become an LCS sailor, individuals follow an extensive training pipeline, and sailors must qualify using state-of-the-art simulators nearly identical to the ship.
