AMIkids runs a community-based program called Y.E.S that’s helping kids who would be headed for juvenile detention take an alternate path to finishing school and learning how to live productive, crime-free lives.
Vocational training is one way that AMIkids motivates kids to learn and envision careers that match their passions. One program, supported by the National Center for Construction and Education Research, teaches kids the fundamentals of construction and carpentry.
It’s working. Recent graduate Zachary G. earned his high school diploma and completed carpentry courses in the program. Now, he studies engineering at St. Petersburg College.
