Do’s and don’ts for working with reporters

by

For reporters, nothing is more annoying than getting a pitch for a story with no relevance to their audience, followed by repeated follow-up calls from the PR person pitching the idea.

When I was a business reporter, I “blacklisted” several PR folks who did this again and again.

If your organization does media relations, don’t get blacklisted. Read B2’s blog for tips about how to successfully work with and pitch reporters. In short, be helpful. Ensure your pitch matches the outlet and has news value. And don’t only talk when your news is good – respond regardless of the situation.
