As the stepson of a Holocaust survivor, artist Murray Zimiles felt an obligation to deal with the Holocaust in his work. Born in New York in 1941, he has created numerous paintings, drawings, prints and artist’s books that are graphic statements meant to evoke images of fire and devastation. Zimiles’ work has exhibited nationally and internationally.

In the exhibition “The Holocaust and the Book of Fire,” Zimiles deals with themes like the perceived absence of civilization during the Holocaust. The exhibition opens at the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg Sept. 2 and will be on display until Dec. 31.
