Internationally renowned artist Alex Katz has created signature portraits, landscapes and still lifes that focus on the object’s essential lines and form. “Van Gogh didn’t need all those strokes,” he said in a recent interview with the Tampa Bay Times.

“Alex Katz: Black and White” is on display through May 29 at the Tampa Museum of Art. The exhibit features many of his monochrome prints and some color works. Katz’s works can be found in more than 100 public art collections around the world, from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to the Tate gallery in London.
