A Hillsborough County Deputy was discharged from the hospital just days before Christmas after recovering from an on-duty ambush in Brandon in October.

Corporal Carlos Brito left Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Largo Dec. 19 after 45 days of surgeries and healing.

He and Deputy Manny Santos were responding to a call at a home when Ralph Bouzy hit them both with a vehicle. Brito was discharged from the hospital in mid-November.

“I think we all just received the greatest gift knowing that both Corporal Brito and Deputy Santos will be home for the holidays,” Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
