TOPGUN, it turns out, is not just a recently sequeled Tom Cruise movie. It’s the world’s premier air warfare training center. And a Largo High School graduate is among those working with irl TOPGUNs.
Seaman Eli Santiago serves as a yeoman at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada, where he supports some of the most elite aviators in the world. The TOPGUN program only accepts the top 1% of aviators in the navy.
The TOPGUN program was started in the Vietnam era to reduce fighter pilot deaths. The program persists today, launching some of the best pilots and one classic film.
