Increasing representation of female artists

More than half of visual artists working today are women. Yet only 5% of artworks in permanent collections at major U.S. museums were created by female artists.

Local museums are working to change this. The Tampa Museum of Art recently acquired “Raft,” a painting by Mernet Larsen, following a retrospective of her work earlier this year. Larsen will be honored at TBBCA Impact Awards on Oct. 18.

The museum is also featuring “LOVE IS CALLING,” an Infinity Room by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, on loan from Vinik Family Foundation. Visitors can immerse themselves in the exhibition through Feb. 14.
